Excel, QuickBooks Courses at Sandburg in 2021 Spring Semester

Carl Sandburg College’s Corporate and Leisure College will have a series of offerings during the 2021 spring semester that cover all skill levels of Microsoft Excel and Intuit QuickBooks.

Students can register for any or all of the four classes. Each course is an affordable, one-time session led by Sandburg accounting instructor Mollisa Kurz, who has a bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Iowa, a master’s in professional accounting from Colorado State University and is pursuing a master’s in business administration from Wayne State College. Kurz worked for 14 years as a corporate accountant and for two as a high school business and technology teacher before joining Sandburg’s faculty in January 2019.

INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL
Class meets: 6-8 p.m. Feb. 2 (virtual class session)
Cost: $20
This virtual course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn Excel and give them an understanding of the most widely used business software in the world. No prior knowledge of Excel is required. Learn how to set up an Excel worksheet, edit the worksheet (including inserting/deleting cells, columns and rows) and cell formatting. You will also learn how to perform calculations, build simple formulas and use some of Excel’s built-in functions. This course will be taught using Excel 2016, but all features will work in Excel 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and Microsoft Office 365.

INTERMEDIATE EXCEL
Class meets: 1-5 p.m. March 2 OR 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 4
Cost: $20 (special introductory rate)
Whether you are a business professional, student, teacher or entrepreneur, this training can benefit you and help take your Excel skills to the next level. Learn how to manage your Excel data by sorting, filtering, consolidating and removing duplicates to find exactly what you are looking for. Students will also learn how to create charts such as scatter plots, column charts, pie charts and sparklines so you can summarize and see your data effectively. You’ll also learn to create dynamic reports by mastering one of Excel’s most popular tools, pivot tables. This course will be taught using Excel 2016, but all features will work in Excel 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and Microsoft Office 365.

ADVANCED EXCEL
Class meets: 1-5 p.m. April 20 OR 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. April 22
Cost: $20 (special introductory rate)
Whether you are a business professional, student, teach or entrepreneur, this training can benefit you, especially if you routinely work with large amounts of data. Students in this class will learn how to find and correct errors within your data as well as how to use data validation to restrict entry errors in the first place. Students will also learn how to automate choices and create data lookups using such Excel functions as IF, AND, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP. You’ll also learn to record basic macros in Excel to automate repetitive tasks and save precious time. This course will be taught using Excel 2016, but all features will work in Excel 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and Microsoft Office 365.

QUICKBOOKS
Class meets: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 30 OR 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 1 (includes 45-minute lunch break)
Cost: $60 (special introductory rate)
If you’re new to QuickBooks or have limited experience using the software, this class will help you become a seasoned user in no time. Learn how to set up a company; create and manage customers and vendors; create invoices; send payments; enter banking transactions; and create reports. Upon completion of this class, students will know the best ways to get around, enter day-to-day transactions and get the information they need out of QuickBooks. This class will be taught using QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2018.
